Oskido

Music Producer, Music Artist, Business owner, Record Label Owner, Club DJ and Radio Presenter

Shows: I Believe

Oskido’s career started out as a club DJ after he stood in for the resident DJ and a club he was working at. Under the influence of Djs /Remixers like the late Frankie Knuckles and Louie Vega, he started slowing down the tempo on house tracks and to reproduce the sound to create his own sound to put on cassette. This led to the release of cassette mixes such as “Mixmaster”. While touring campuses as a DJ, he met with Bruce “Dope” Sebitlo, who then became his partner for Brothers of Peace.

By adding vocals to the slow Tempo house beats, a new genre called Kwaito was born. Oskido joined forces with Don Laka and Christos Katsaitis to form Kalawa, which then became Kalawa Jazzmee when the foursome from Trompies joined the label. Kalawa Jazzmee became the stable responsible for artists such as Boom Shaka, Bongo Maffin, Mafikizolo, Thebe,     Alaska, Uhuru, Black Motion and many more. Oskido started his Radio career in 1997 when he was part of the original Y-FM crew. He co-hosted The Rap Activity Jam, which was partly responsible for hip-hop acts carving a distinct South African sound. He later moved onto hosting Oskido’s Church Groove, before moving to METRO FM after 10 years at Y-FM. He currently presents “I Believe” on METRO FM every Saturday from 3-6pm.

Oskido is also a member of the DJU collective, which includes, among others, Dj Fresh and is responsible for the SA Music Conference. He is a businessman and co-owns Madlozi Entertainment with Greg Maloka and owns a series of pop-up restaurants called Oskido’s Groove Lounge. He has won numerous music awards under Kalawa Jazzmee, including a SAMA for Best Remix in 2014.
