Metro FM Music Awards Celebrated Greatness

The METRO FM Music Awards Final Statement

The 14th  METRO FM Music Awards last night was undoubtedly by far the biggest event in the music industry in the country where the entire country came to a complete halt as the SABC’s biggest commercial radio station, METRO FM, took over the City Of Durban for the 14th leg of the Awards.  Thabo Molefe, aka Tbo Touch, was undoubtedly untouchable as the host of the Awards!  Alongside him was popular personality, Minnie Dlamini.  The annual awards ceremony took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC).

In true Celebration of Greatness, METRO FM took this years overall production a notch up.  The performance on stage by the likes of local musos, Sifiso Mcwane, Brian Temba, Sibongile Mngoma, Moneoa, DJ Clock & Beatenberg, KO, HHP, DJ Marlon & Mondli Ngcobo, to mention but a few, ensured that guests were on their feet half the time dancing the night away.  Celebrities, well-known personalities, musicians, the business fraternity, politicians and our listeners came out in their numbers to celebrate the country’s rich music talent.  The Public Viewing Area (PVA) at the Moses Mabhida stadium was just as electrifying as the crowds who attended that activation joined in the fun when they watched the awards on big screens with two crossings from the main arena, enjoyed the music of some of the musicians who had won awards as well as

Over and above the many amazing segments and performances of last night, what will linger on in the minds of fans, listeners and viewers was the special Eddie Zondi tribute hosted by METRO FM’s own Robert Marawa joined by the stations’ DJ’s and staff by lighting electric candles in his honour.  Joining in this special moment was Eddie Zondi’s widow, Phakamile Zondi and his kids who were presented with a special remembrance award.  This was undoubtedly a nostalgic moment that got the entire arena on their feet and in tears, but this time around these were tears of joy in celebrating a life that was great, that of Eddie Zondi.

It is with a sense of great pride that we have over the years managed to give such an authentic platform to our local artists to showcasing their hard work and walk away with this coveted statuette in celebration of their greatness. The Awards kicked off at 18h30 – 19h30 with a live Black Carpet Production on RBG, SABC1 setting the tone of the Glitz, Glamour, Class, Finesse & opulence.  This was then followed by the main show which was also live on SABC1 at 8pm!

The Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, the City of Durban, BP and SA Express remained our partners! We are also proud to announce that Amstel, Simba and Vodacom also came on board as partners of MMA14. The station prides itself with aligning this, our biggest flagship property with super brands such as these to ensure that we collectively continue to stand out and be forces to be reckoned with in our respective fields.

South Africa, thank you for your unwavering support over the years.  We look forward to celebrating much more greatness with you next year.
