METRO FM Awards – Bigger and Better!
The METRO FM Music Awards property has grown in leaps and bounds, from a small event that was held in downtown Johannesburg at The Pyramid with 300 guests, to an event that gets the country talking each year! It has undoubtedly become the most anticipated and celebrated music spectacle by far.
METRO FM PR and Communications Manager, Ms. Happy Ngidi said: “PR can never be underplayed when it comes to a project of this magnitude. It comes with a huge responsibility where by virtue of the fact that we are a huge success story, we can’t afford to let our guard down and display an arrogant sense of comfort. As the METRO FM Music Awards PR team, we are dictated to by this massive project to work twice as hard to ensure that we maintain our standing in the public domain. Our fundamental principle has always been never to take the property’s good standing in the public domain for granted.”
She went on to say that, in line with this year’s Communications’ Strategy, the station’s approach is that everyone who works at the station is a custodian of this property particularly our talent on-air. “We believe that with a clear buy-in from out on air talent, we have won half the communications’ battle. From a PR perspective we’ve had to ensure that we remain relevant and also adopt global practices that are in line with our brands’ vision and strategy. Over and above the power of social media at our disposal, as well as printed and electronic media that has worked for the MMA’s in the past, we’ve had to apply other ways and means to stay on top of mind”, she said.
“Ours has always been to ensure that South Africans know that there is some coming up the minute we launch the next leg of the MMA’s. We are also fortunate enough to have at our disposal 18 radio stations and three sister channels at the SABC, who’s territory we’ve succeeded in tapping into. As METRO FM, we have been well received by our sister radio stations where we’ve used the opportunity to keep our audiences informed at all time in regards to the MMA’s. We take full advantage of our transversal platforms within. We’ve also been well received by our sister channels through TV Shows such as Morning Live, Expresso, Kids’ News, Mzansi Insider, LiveAmp, Selimathunzi, The Link, Hectic 9/9, Yo-TV, Top Billing, RGB and many more. As a station we have made appearances at many of these platforms if not all, by utilising most of our talent in an effort to generate the necessary awareness around the Awards”, said Happy.
Talking about the hosts for this year’s extravaganza, Happy tells us that METRO FM’s very own, Tbo Touch and Minnie Dlamini will hold it down as co-hosts at the Durban ICC, and as expected, the tickets to the main show were sold out within two days of going on sale. “The tickets to the popular PVA are still available at Computicket at R200 general and R500 VIP. Fans and our listeners can expect a star studded affair on Saturday. We will be setting the tone with a spectacular hour broadcast from 18h30 –19h30 live on SABC1, on RGB! We are taking the MMA Black Carpet Arrival to another level where the glitz and glamour are the order of the day as we see Mzansi Stars strut their stuff in Celebration of Greatness! Class, elegance, spectacular opulence, celebrating how great you are and certainly no jeans, sneakers and tshirts”, she advises.
Catch the 14th MMA’s live on Saturday, 28 February on SABC1, Mzansi FoSho at 20:00. If you on the move, be sure to catch the live stream on the Metro FM website.
